Hair Extensions – A lesson about the history of hair extensions

Have you ever heard what goes around comes around? Well this is no less true for hair extensions. This glamorous and desirable form of hair styling was popular with the Egyptians. Amazingly they were not restricted to women and where in fact popular with both genders. Not only where hair extensions popular but they were used to hold jewels and used to great lengths to embellish the individuals. The look of hair extensions was not the only reason for their use. In fact, they were used much to ward of such things as head lice. Many of the men would shave themselves bald and then use wigs and hair pieces instead.

During the 1800s it became extremely popular to keep hair natural and this of course left hair extensions by the wayside for a time. Women began to wear their hair as natural and untouched as possible. This however did not last for long. Early on in the 20th century woman began to wear hair extensions to help them create a particularly popular hair style called pompadour. This style put the hair high on the head and was then embellished with jewels, flowers and anything else that the woman thought looked good.

Over time hair extensions have continued to grow to popularity from the regular girl next door to the glamour of the stars. Through the times the majority of these hair extensions were created with natural hair. There were a large variety of ways that the women could wear the hair. In the beginning the hair was attached to the scalp using items such as bees wax. This of course has evolved into the use of clips and the ability to fuse the extensions to the natural hair. This gives the individual more choices on the type of hair styles they want to use with the hair extensions.

In addition, the new technology has made the hair extensions virtually invisible to those passing by. The variety of colours available for individuals allows the hair extensions to look more like the natural hair. This large number of choices also allows for dramatic changes in the look of the person getting the extensions. It gives them license to be wild in the style and adding bright colours in contrast to the colours of the natural hair if so desired.

Hair Extensions London – A Look into the Past

Hair extensions may seem like a new innovation in a high tech world, but the truth is that hair extensions date back to ancient Egyptian times when men and women wore wigs. Since these early times, hair pieces have gone in and out of style up until the present, where toupees are out, but hair extensions London are definitely in. The 1800s was a time when artificial hair was frowned upon, but the Romantic era brought on a style of elaborate Apollo knots and hair pieces. Other people like Victorian and Edwardian women wore extremely gaudy false hair to mimic a pompadour hairstyle.

Moving forward to the 1920s, thin, short straight hair was all the rage, so the presence of hair extensions took a dive. The 1940s brought long hair back into fashion, so hair extensions London became the trendy style. Another 20 years later and big hair was back in style again. Extravagant hair pieces were used to create fashionable updos. Through the 1970s and 80s, wigs constructed from both faux and real human hair allowed women to achieve the big look that everyone had at the time.

Everyone from movie stars and singers to average mid-income women became involved in the hair extension scene in the 1990s. The new affordability allowed everyone to copy the ever-changing looks of famous people. When one week a movie star has a cropped bob cut and the next she is sporting long flowing locks, it is clear that hair extensions London are at play in the hairdo. This kind of change cannot be masked as natural, but it is certainly not frowned upon. On the contrary, thick voluptuous hair is very much in style right now. Long locks full of body and volume are the hottest way to transform your current look into something even more fabulous.

At Hair by RA, you can enjoy hair extensions London made from real human hair with no hidden costs. Both Indian Remy and European hair are available upon request at a price you can handle. We give you a full head of extensions, and we do not skimp on this amount of hair we provide you with for your long lasting extensions. Between 150 and 200 bonds are common in an average procedure, and no matter how long it takes, we will stick with you until your hair looks as perfect as possible at no extra cost.
